About

An independent press for difficult questions.

Lookout Mountain Publications takes its name from the Appalachian foothill that runs down through Alabama, the kind of high ground you climb to see a little farther. That is roughly the ambition here: books that look past the near horizon.

What we are after

We publish a narrow band of work. Speculative philosophy. Ideas drawn from the frontier of science, where physics and information and cognition stop behaving like separate subjects. Books that take consciousness, mind, and emerging technology seriously, neither as hype nor as taboo, but as the genuine puzzles they are.

The house style is patience. We would rather release one book that earns a careful reader's attention than a season of titles that do not. Each manuscript is chosen because it argues something worth arguing, and is written well enough to be a pleasure on the page.

The founder

Dale Lee Biddle, illustrated portrait

The press was founded by Dale Lee Biddle, an Alabama-based author and researcher specializing in English literature and philosophical theory. Through his research and writing, he invites readers to reconsider the fundamental nature of reality and our place within it.

He is the creator of the Resonant Consciousness Theory and a dedicated reader of gritty, historical fiction. Follow his work as he explores the boundaries of thought and storytelling.

That preoccupation produced the imprint's newest book, The Third Thing, in which he set the AI model Claude in dialogue with three other systems and largely got out of the way. Lookout Mountain Publications grew out of the simple wish to give such projects a home, made with care, rather than to leave them scattered.
